Labor and community activist Linda Roberts is running for State Senate in Sacramento County's 8th District in the June 2nd primary election.  She has been endorsed by both the Peace and Freedom Party and the Green Party.

Her campaign is centered around representing working people at the Capitol.  As can be seen from campaign finance reports, the very wealthy already have plenty of representation in Sacramento.

Linda Roberts describes herself as an "Air Force brat," raised in many places, from New Mexico where she was born to various other states and even Japan.  A working-class student, a self-described "science nerd," she worked her way through college, often in laboratories.  She earned a BS in Biology from Cal State Sacramento. Having studied Spanish, Latin, and French, she has found the Spanish helpful in later life.  She became politically active as a student, working against the Vietnam War and against apartheid.

In her working life, she added union activism to her other causes.  She has been a member of two locals of Service Employees International Union, and served as steward, chief steward, bargaining council member, delegate at the state and international level, chapter president, and as a Central Labor Council delegate.  Linda was married to another left activist, the late Richard Perry, for 46 years.

Some of her specific memberships have been in the ACLU, SEIU local and national Lavender Caucus, Caucus for a Democratic Union, Pride at Work, Immigration Law Project, Organized Voices, Making the Best Better, Coalition of Labor Union Women - and many more.  In retirement, she has been active in California Association of Retired Americans, was the treasurer for Older Women's League, the treasurer for the Federation of Retired Union Members, and has continued to work against racism and war.  She has walked on hundreds of picket lines in solidarity with other unions, and has acted as a legal observer at mass demonstrations.  Organizations she has worked with and supported include National Lawyers' Guild, Immigration Law Project, Oak Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, and Families to Amend California's Three Strikes (working with NAACP, Urban League, and Islamic groups).  Linda has been active in the Peace and Freedom Party for many years, and has served as County Chair.  She has also worked with Green Party members on various campaigns.

Linda Roberts is a member of the Left Unity Slate in the June primary election.
